The Buzz Desktop application
will work on Windows 98 and later versions. (This download requires
WinZip® software to open the file. Click here
to download the WinZip evaluation version from the WinZip web
site.)
Click the button to download the Zip archive containing the Windows
version of the Buzz Desktop application to your desired directory.
After downloading, go to the directory where you downloaded the
archive. Double-click on the downloaded file ("Buzz_Desktop.zip")
to open the archive. (On some systems, the file will automatically
appear on the desktop as “Buzz_Desktop_setup.”)
Next, double click on the Buzz Desktop file ("Buzz_Desktop_setup.exe
or Buzz_Desktop_setup"). A dialog box will open. Click the
button that reads "Install." Then follow the steps to
complete the installation.
If Your Buzz Desktop Does Not Display, Follow These Steps:
Go to the Start menu. Select "Settings" and then
"Control Panel."
In the Control Panel window, double-click "Display." The "Display Properties" window will open.
On the tabs at the top of the "Display Properties" window, select "Background." (On Windows XP, select “Desktop”)
On the "Background" pulldown list, select "Buzz Desktop"
and then click OK.
To Turn On Interactivity:
You will need to click on the desktop first in order to
enable its interactive features.
To Change Wallpaper or Uninstall the Buzz Desktop on a
PC:
To change wallpaper, follow the instructions above to open
the "Display" section of your Control Panel and deselect
"Buzz Desktop."
To uninstall the program, go to your computer's control panel, then to
“Add or Remove Programs” and select “Buzz Desktop.”
Note: Dialog Box Alert When Connecting to Internet
With Flash Player versions 8 and later, a dialog box may
appear when the desktop tries to connect to the Summer Reading Buzz
Web site. You can change your Flash Global Security Settings to allow

The Buzz Desktop application
will work on MAC OS X. (This download requires the latest version
of StuffIt
Expander, available for free download.)
Click the button to download the Macintosh version of the Buzz Desktop
wallpaper. The download will appear in a directory of your choice.
Go to that directory and double-click on the file “Buzz Desktop.sit”
to create a new file called “Buzz_Desktop”. (On some
systems this step will happen automatically.)
Open “Buzz_Desktop” and the Buzz Desktop application will install.
Click OK.
A Screentime icon will appear on the upper right hand corner of your desktop.
Select “Make wallpaper interactive” so you can interact
with the wallpaper.
To View Your Icons:
Click on the Screentime icon again and select “Show
Desktop Icons.” (Note: When icons are shown, desktop interactivity
will not function.) Choose “Make Wallpaper Interactive”
from the Screentime menu to switch to the interactive wallpaper.
To Quit or Uninstall the Buzz Desktop on a Mac:
To quit the interactive desktop, click the Screentime icon
on the upper right hand corner of the desktop and select “Quit
SWF Desktop.”
To uninstall the interactive desktop, click the Screentime icon on the upper right hand corner of the desktop and select “Preferences.”
Select “Delete selected desktop.”
Deselect “Start SWF Desktop at Login” and close pop-up window.
