Summary:
In this powerful multimedia lesson, students will explore how and why Nazis controlled information. First, students will watch a video of author Kristin Lewis explaining how she wrote the article. They will then read and discuss “The Boys Who Fought the Nazis.” An activity, available in more-scaffolded and less-scaffolded versions, will help them identify its central ideas. A slide show will then take students deeper into their exploration of Nazi propaganda. Finally, students will synthesize what they have learned by responding to a writing prompt.

Main Objectives:
• to read a narrative nonfiction article and identify its central ideas
• to learn about and analyze a historical event
• to participate in whole-class and small-group discussions
• to synthesize information from multiple sources and respond to a writing prompt
