PEOPLE TO PEOPLE AMBASSADOR PROGRAMS' TRAVEL ADVENTURES ESSAY CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A purchase will not increase the chances of winning. The PEOPLE TO PEOPLE AMBASSADOR PROGRAMS' TRAVEL ADVENTURES ESSAY CONTEST ("Contest") starts on April 2, 2012, and ends on November 26, 2012. All entries must be postmarked by November 26, 2012, and received by December 3, 2012.
How to Enter: To enter the Contest, students must write an essay of not more than 200 words, responding to the following writing prompt: You wake up in a hotel room. You look around you. The room is empty. On the mirror is a note written in thick black marker. It says: "The final clue is just around the corner. Be Careful!!" You hear a knock on the door. Your heart is thumping in your chest. You look through the peephole. What happens next? Entries will be judged equally on: responding fully to the topic, spelling and grammar, essay structure, and creativity.
Completed entries must be submitted by mail to: Travel Adventures Essay Contest, Scholastic Inc., P.O. Box 713, New York, NY 10013-0713, Attention: S. Keating. Entry form must include entrant's name, grade, parent's name, parent's signature, home address, city, state, zip, email address, and phone number.
Entries must be the entrant's original work, and cannot contain previously published and/or copyrighted material in any part by any third party. Additionally, each entry must be in keeping with Scholastic Inc.'s ("Scholastic") and Ambassador Programs, Inc., d/b/a People to People Ambassador Programs' ("People to People Ambassador Programs") images and may not be offensive or inappropriate, as determined by Scholastic and People to People Ambassador Programs in their sole discretion. Furthermore, an entry may not defame or invade publicity rights or the privacy rights of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any person's personal or property rights or any other third-party rights. Scholastic reserves the right to disqualify any entry it deems to be offensive, inappropriate, or not in keeping with Scholastic's and People to People Ambassador Programs' images, in their sole discretion.
Eligibility: The Contest is open only to students in grades 5–8 at the time of their entry, enrolled in public schools, accredited private schools, or home schools in compliance with the laws of their state. Entrants must also be legal residents of the United States living in the 50 states or Washington, DC. Employees of Scholastic and People to People Ambassador Programs, and members of their immediate families living in the same household, their parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, and their advertising, promotion, and production agencies, are not eligible to enter. Students may only submit one entry.
All personal information collected in connection with the entries will be retained in accordance with Scholastic's records retention policies for the Contest (all entries will be kept for one year following selection of the winner; all winning entries will be kept for up to three years). Any such personal information collected will also be subject to Scholastic's Privacy Policy. By submitting an entry to this Contest, you understand and consent to the collection, maintenance, processing, and transfer of your information in and to the United States and other countries and territories. You acknowledge and agree that such information may be available to United States authorities or otherwise accessed in accordance with United States federal or applicable state law.
With respect to People to People Ambassador Programs' need to arrange for publicity as it relates to the Contest, all personal information collected will be subject to People to People Ambassador Programs' Privacy Policy.
Scholastic and People to People Ambassador Programs are not responsible for late, lost, stolen, inaccurate, garbled, damaged, illegible, undelivered, delayed, misdirected, or postage-due entries or mail.
Entries: By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees People to People Ambassador Programs shall own the entry submitted (including all rights embodied therein in winning entries) and that it and its designees (including Scholastic) may exploit, edit, publish, use, adapt, modify, or dispose of any entry and elements embodied therein, online, in print, film, television, or in any other media now or hereafter known for advertising, promotional, or other purposes throughout the world, in perpetuity, without additional compensation or notification to, or permission of the entrant, except as prohibited by law.
Judging Criteria: Entries will be judged equally on: responding fully to the topic, spelling and grammar, essay structure, and creativity.
Selection of winners: Entries submitted will be judged by Scholastic and People to People Ambassador Programs. One winner will be notified on or about January 10, 2013. Each entrant agrees to be bound by the Official Rules, and the decisions of the judges are final in all matters relating to this Contest. The winners and their parents/legal guardians, will be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within ten (10) business days of notification attempt or an alternative winner may be selected. People to People Ambassador Programs and Scholastic reserve the right to not select a winner if none of the entries are deemed of sufficient quality based on the criteria.
By entering, each entrant hereby releases and holds harmless Scholastic, People to People Ambassador Programs, and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, licensors, licensees, advertising and promotion agencies, and all others associated with the development and execution of this Contest, and the respective officers, directors, shareholders, agents, and employees of the foregoing (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all claims, demands, losses, promises, causes of action, and liabilities arising out of the preparation for or participation in this Contest, or any use/misuse of any prize (or any portion thereof) awarded hereunder, including any travel or activity related thereto.
Scholastic and People to People Ambassador Programs assume no responsibility or liability for the selection of any winner. The Contest entry and/or acceptance of any prizes constitute a release of Scholastic and People to People Ambassador Programs from such responsibilities and liabilities.
Prizes: One grand prize winner will be selected from all eligible entries to take a 14-day trip during Summer 2013 with People to People Ambassador Programs. This trip through England and France includes visits to London, England; Warwick, England; Amesbury, England; Bath, England; Wells, England; Caen, France; and Paris, France. Note: Highlights featured represent past programs. Your program may differ slightly in some areas due to scheduling conflicts, unforeseen changes, and the arrival of new opportunities. Your program's Schedule of Activities will be provided as confirmed, closer to actual travel. Go to www.scholastic.com/peopletopeople for further details. Trip ARV: $5,000.
Monthly prizes: Each month (April 2012–November 2012), the entrants from that month will be entered into a random drawing to receive an Apple iPod (ARV: $200). Two winners will be selected by the fifth of each month, and notified via email by the tenth of the month. A total of 16 winners will be chosen.
Total ARV of all prizes: $8,200. No cash substitutions for prizes. In the event of prize unavailability, a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded as determined in Sponsor's sole discretion. Prizes are nontransferable. All federal, state, and local taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winners. Void where restricted or prohibited.
General: By entering, students agree to abide by these Official Rules, warrant and represent that entries are their original work and grant to Scholastic and People to People Ambassador Programs the right to use the winning information provided and likeness in any media now or hereafter known for advertising, promotion, and/or other purposes throughout the world without additional compensation or notification to, or permission of the entrant, except as prohibited. If Scholastic and/or People to People Ambassador Programs discover at any time, during or after the Contest, that an entry contained infringing material, the student who submitted the entry will be immediately disqualified and will be obligated to immediately return any and all prizes that may have been awarded to them in connection with their entry. Subject to all applicable laws. In the event the Contest is compromised by nonauthorized human intervention, virus, bugs, or other causes beyond the control of Sponsor that corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness, or proper play of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify, suspend, or terminate the Contest or any portion thereof and/or terminate the participation of any participant (and void his/her entry) whose conduct potentially compromises the Contest, and at its sole discretion to award the prizes from among all eligible nonsuspect entries received prior to termination using the judging procedures outlined above.
