Use Your Grocery Store Circular to Teach Money Sense

Hand your child a calculator and a copy of the shopping circular from your local grocery store. Then, ask her to use a budget of $10 to select healthy snack items for the week. Consider giving her additional constraints, too, like "The snacks need to last the entire week," or "Each serving should cost no more than 75¢." When she's done, check the list together, and determine whether the items she's selected meet the guidelines you set. As an extension activity, ask her to plan your family's lunches, too, using a specific amount of money.
