Explain to your children that some drugs are illegal and should never be used because they will damage their brains and bodies. Take advantage of teachable moments—for example, when your child is on an antibiotic, explain why that is a safe drug, but remind him that any drug can be dangerous if misused. You can also ask your child’s teacher when these topics will be covered in school.
