The Story Behind the Picture

As your child is drawing, ask him about what he’s doing and record the answers. The key is to prompt narration without interrupting his creative efforts. Start with “Oh, I see you’re choosing to cut out that red paper. What could you make with that?” It helps your child understand his creative process and realize that art can tell a story.
