Start a Debate to Brainstorm for a Persuasive Essay

The next time your child brings home a persuasive essay assignment, help her prepare by hosting your own debate on the topic. Instruct your child to create arguments for the main point with some research to back it up. Then, poke holes in the arguments. Look for weaknesses, and help your child find appropriate responses to back his or her beliefs.
