Science Trivia #2: Melting Points
Which of these has the highest melting point (the point at which it'll change from a solid to a liquid): gold, diamonds, or sodium chloride? The answer is diamonds — they melt at 3,550 degrees Celsius. Gold melts at 1,064 degrees and sodium chloride does so at 801 degrees. Bonus points if your child can identify sodium chloride by its more common name: salt.
