Reinforce Your Child's Understanding of Suffixes

Give your child a root word – like "place" – and create new words by adding prefixes, suffixes, or both. For example, adding the prefix "mis-" creates "misplace." Adding the suffix "-ment" creates "placement." Help by making a list of prefixes (dis-, im-, il-, in-, mis-, re-, and un-) and suffixes (-able, -al, -ance, -ful, -ion, -ly, -ment, and -y).
