"Rata Pata Scata Fata: A Caribbean Story" by Phillis Gerhsator

Rata pata scata fata is a set of sing-song nonsense syllables traditional to St. Thomas, in the Virgin Islands. In this story, with its beautiful torn-paper-collage illustrations, a boy called JunJun says these syllables over and over when his chores feel dull and boring – and to him, they’re magic words.
