Move Beyond Knowledge to Comprehension

It's easy for most kids to memorize the definition of a vocabulary word. To truly comprehend a vocabulary word, help your child move beyond basic memorization. Ask your child to give you a synonym of the word. Then ask her to use it correctly in a sentence or have her describe a situation where the word could be used in casual conversation.
