In the first months of life, try books that do more than convey a story. Books with puffy pages, or pages that squeak or crinkle, or books with built in activities (think: Pat the Bunny) work not just because they’re fun, but because they hold an infant’s attention and get her used to a hopefully lifelong reading routine.
