Language Skills at 18 Months

Although children learn at different rates, there are aspects of language development you might expect at about 18 months: Your child may have a 15- to 20-word vocabulary, made up chiefly of nouns (doggie, car, book, etc.). You may be hearing repetition of the same phrase over and over (called echolalia). She can also follow simple commands.
