Keep a Reading Log

Encourage your child to maintain a reading log. (Here's one example of a reading log.) For every book he reads, have him write down the date, title, author, main characters, and his favorite parts of the story. Have him consider adding drawings, too. Talk about how he can use this resource to later recall what he read over the summer and recommend a title to a friend.
