Is it transparent?

With your child, gather items from around the house: a book, a paper napkin, a favorite t-shirt, etc. Have your child shine a flashlight on one side of the item, and observe whether he can see the light shining through it. Light can shine through thinner or lighter objects (called translucent), but is blocked by solid objects (called opaque).
