I'm a Poet — and I Know It!

Every child has an inner poet just waiting to take flight! Next time you’re out and about — whether just at the local store or on vacation — make it a poetic experience. Ask your child to write down a sentence or two describing what she sees. Remember to tell her to use all her senses, writing down words that describe colors, sounds, shapes, and more to depict the world around her. When you’re back home, ask her to turn her sentences into a poem (rhyming is fine, but not essential). You could also pull out some poetry books to help her get started. It’s a simple way to bring this beautiful form of expression to life.
