For a more challenging read for your middle schooler, The Mighty Miss Malone, by Christopher Paul Curtis, can be a nice step away from the futuristic, transformer-filled world in which we live. The story depicts an African-American family in the 1920s, and your children will see true struggle coincide with hope and love. Ask your children questions about what it might have been like to live during that time period.
