Feel Your Food

If you’re feeling brave, keep your toddler nearby as you cook. Ask her to use her senses to look at, smell, feel, and taste the food you’re preparing. Keep up commentary, describing textures and colors. “Oh, this flour is so dry and soft, isn’t it?” And, “Now that it’s all mixed up, the dough is pretty sticky, right?” “What do you think about how crunchy and bright orange these carrots are?” These exercises help her build language and understand the properties of things around her.
