Encourage Speaking Attempts

As your child spouts out early words, many of them will only be approximations of the correct pronunciation or usage. Instead of telling your child she said or used the word incorrectly, try repeating back the correct word or phrase in a new way. For example, if your child calls your pet a "goggie," say, “Yes, that’s our doggie! We love him!” Always be matter-of-fact and non-judgmental as you say the words correctly.
