Did Rodin Use Live Models?
Bronze statues are everywhere. The next time you happen by one, toss out this art trivia question to your son or daughter: "Who was the famous artist whose works were so realistic some people thought he covered live models in bronze and let them die?" The answer: Auguste Rodin. Some of his famous works, like The Thinker and The Age of Bronze, are so realistic that they gave viewers a scare when they were first observed! Luckily, they were wrong. Rodin was an amazing artist who spent thousands of hours observing, sketching and sculpting the human body to look nearly identical to the real thing.
