Diagnosing Hearing Trouble

Good hearing is crucial for language development. Remember, being able to hear is different from being willing to listen. If you suspect your child is not hearing well (he can hear a high-pitched cellphone ring but not something softer) or if he has had frequent ear infections or bouts of respiratory illness, talk to your doctor right away. Address your concerns and ask your doctor to perform a hearing test at your next appointment.
