Covering the Letters

Here’s a great way to help your preschooler learn to trace letters. Take some paper and draw large letters (such as your child’s name). Then, use masking tape or painter’s tape to cover your hand-drawn letters and make them big and bold. Then give your child a bowl full of snacks, such as pieces of cereal or raisins, and have her form the letters with her snack pieces. When she’s done, it’s snack time! If you don’t want to use food, you can do the same activity but with buttons, coins, or cotton balls.
