Communicate Your Strategy Out Loud

When you're helping your child with math, verbalize each step of your strategy. For instance, if you're subtracting 9 from 37, you could say, "I know that 37 minus 10 would be 27, and 9 is just one less than 10, so my answer is 28." Encourage your child to articulate her thought processes out loud, as well.
