Silver Strand State Beach (San Diego, CA) Use binoculars and magnifying glasses to explore salt marsh and coastal dune habitats during this hour-long walk. You might see birds, crabs, rabbits, lizards, and dolphins! Sundays at 1:30 p.m.; free. 

Fort Tilden (Queens, NY) Once an active military base, this area at the edge of the Big Apple teems with wildlife. Park ranger–led tours introduce the maritime forest, the Atlantic shore, and a freshwater pond. Check the website for dates and times. 

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center (Jeckyll Island, GA) From June 1 to July 31, you can look for loggerhead sea turtle nests after sunset. Two guided tours offered nightly; reservations required; $12 per person.

Redwood National Park (Crescent City, CA) Famous for its ancient towering trees, this park also offers 40 miles of pristine coastline. Join a 2-hour tidepool walk led by a park ranger naturalist to meet sea stars, anemones, limpets, and more! Check the website for date and time details.
