1. Surf (Deerfield Beach, FL)

Every Saturday at 7 a.m., Island Water Sports (a surf gear store just blocks from the water) offers 80 minutes of intro instruction by a seasoned pro. All ages; boards provided.

2. Craft (Oceanside, CA)

Do a craft project together at the Oceanside Museum of Art the first Sunday of every month (1 to 4 p.m.). Many crafts are inspired by the museum’s exhibits. February 7’s theme: Chinese lanterns. All materials and instruction provided.

3. Dance (Charleston, SC)

Juniors (age 2 to 20) can learn the Carolina Shag, a swing-like dance, every Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at Pivots Beach Club.

4. Hula hoop (Ojai, CA)

Swing your hips in Libbey Park on Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. Instructors provide hula hoops; meet at the fountain.
