Agnes Parker... Happy Camper?

Soon-to-be seventh-grader Agnes is disappointed when she learns that she won't be in the same cabin as her best friend, Prejean, at summer science camp. Being apart gives Agnes a different perspective, and a few worries, about what others think of her longtime friend.  Everyone seems to be going on and on about how beautiful Prejean is. A beauty queen?

Things worsen when Agnes discovers that her bunk buddy has a prickly personality, and Prejean starts behaving like the beauty queen she has become. By the end of camp, however, Agnes realizes that friends can come from unexpected places and things with Prejean may not actually be like they appear.

Soil studies, camp pranks, and a weird bunkmate all play a role in this funny, insightful story of the everyday casualties and payoffs of growing up.
