YOUR BACKYARD
Your backyard is a habitat. A habitat is a plant or animal's home. Often, many plants and animals share the same habitat. In Ms. Frizzle's backyard, you'll find grass, flowers, trees, birds, snails, insects, and, of course, a lizard. Actually, there are many more things in Ms. Frizzle's backyard. But we know you don't have all day!
An animal needs 4 things in its habitat food, water, shelter, and a place to raise its babies. For food, the birds in your backyard probably eat insects (worms, beetles, grubs) and berries. If your backyard has a bird bath or any other fresh water source, birds will drink and maybe bath in it. Birds find cover or shelter in many places trees, bushes, large grassy meadows...even birdhouses. Birds raise their young in the same places they find cover. Have you ever seen a bird's nest with babies in it? If you have, it's probably been far out of reach. Birds don't want other animalslike dogs or humansgoing near their babies.
THIS WAS THE QUESTION...
Go into your backyard and make a list of all the animals you can find. Remember, insects are animals, too. So worms count! Here are some questions for you to think about: Which is your favorite animal? Why does it live in your backyard? Does it have everything it needs? What does it eat for food? Where does it raise its babies? What does it drink? Where does it go when it rains? Where does it hide from other animals?
If you dont have a backyard, you can go to a park, garden, zoo, or aquarium and look at the animals there, too. Or, get a book about an animal and imagine what you think would make a good home or habitat for it!

I see lots of things in my back yard. Some of this includes... Trees, Wild-Life, Plants, and other different things. My backyard is also the state of Florida. We see lots of interesting things down here. We have beaches that have VERY interesting wild life in there. Dolphins, sharks, fishies, shrimps, and all sorts of things. We also have the Everglades. Thats a VERY wet climate. It has a lot of Wet-Lands also. They are very good to have!! Well I hope you enjoy my 2 backyards. Thank you very much for your time and maybe you can visit here one day. We live in El Paso Texas. When we go into the backyard during the day we see brown and tan soil. But if you go out at night when the sun is down and the earth is cooling we see many small creatures! Beetles, centipedes and our friend even caught a tarantula. Lots of life........ just not in the light...... much more at night.
