• A photo of yourself
• Scissors
• Paper
• Glue or tape
• crayons, colored pencils, markers

Tip: You need to cut the photo in half. If you don’t want to destroy the photo you can cut out a face from a magazine.

Question: What’s in a face?

1) First, look at yourself in the mirror. Notice that your face has two eyes, two ears, and two nostrils. One half of your face looks the same as the other. When both halves of an image look the same it is called symmetry.

2) Fold the photo of your face in half, right down the middle of the nose. Cut the photo on the fold line.

3) Glue or tape half the photo to the paper.

4) Now, draw the missing half of your face! Remember that your face looks almost exactly the same on both sides. All you have to do is copy the half of the photo of your face.

5) Look at the mirror again and check your face against the picture you drew. How did you do?

6) Display your sensationally symmetrical picture on the fridge or in your room.

A Scientific Explanation:
A line of symmetry is the line along which an image can be divided so that the two halves mirror each other. For instance, there are four lines of symmetry in a square, while there are infinite lines of symmetry in a circle. Your face has one line of symmetry, right down the middle of your nose!
