Arrow NBA Essay Contest 2006

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. To enter, send one (1) complete essay (2 pages or less) that tells about a teacher or coach who made a difference in a student’s life. The essay should include specifics about what was taught and how it helped the student to succeed. Be sure to include student’s name, teacher’s name, grade level, age, school address, and school telephone number on the entry. Mail completed entries NBA SuperStar Essay Contest 2006, Scholastic Inc., P.O. Box 714, New York, NY, 10013-0714. All entries must be received by February 24, 2006. Entries will be judged on content, creativity, structure and presentation. Winners will be notified by April 3, 2006. Scholastic is not responsible for late, lost, stolen, misdirected, damaged, mutilated, postage due, incomplete or illegible entries or mail.

Contest is open to legal residents of the United States who currently attend grades 4-6. Employees, and members of their families living in the same household of the NBA Properties and Scholastic Inc., their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, brokers, distributors, dealers, retailers, affiliates, and their advertising, promotion and production agencies, are not eligible to enter. Void where prohibited or restricted by law.

One entry per person. All entries and rights therein will become the property of Scholastic Inc. and NBA Properties and will not be returned. By entering, entrants agree to abide by these rules, warrant and represent that their entry is original work and grant to Scholastic the right to edit, publish, promote and otherwise use their entries without further notice or compensation.

One (1) Grand Prize Winner will receive a Basketball Clinic for up to 100 students from the winner’s school taught by an NBA Legend. Clinic will be scheduled by the NBA and Scholastic in coordination with the winning teacher and school. The school will also receive a 50-book SuperStar Library. The winner will receive an official autographed NBA basketball, a $250 NBAStore.com gift certificate and a 50-book SuperStar Library. (Estimated retail value: $5000). Ten (10) Second Prize Winners will receive an official NBA basketball, a $50 NBAStore.com gift certificate, and a 50-book SuperStar Library. (Estimated retail value: $350).

All entrants, as a condition of entry, agree to release Scholastic Inc., the NBA, NBA Properties, its affiliates, subsidiaries, distributors and agencies from any and all liability for injuries or damages of any kind sustained through participation in this contest and/or use of a prize.

A prize of equal or greater value may be awarded.

Each winner and their parent/guardian will be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within fifteen (15) days of notification attempt or an alternate winner may be selected. By accepting the prize, each winner grants to Scholastic and NBA Properties the right to use his or her name, likeness, hometown, biographical information, and entry for purposes of advertising and promotion without further notice or compensation, except where prohibited by law. One or more winners may also be required to attend and participate in media and/or public relations events (the “Media Events”) designated by Scholastic or NBA Properties and/or requested by various media outlets. Upon Scholastic’s or NBA Properties’ request, and subject to winner’s availability, each winner agrees to participate in such Media Events without any further compensation. Scholastic shall have the right, in its sole discretion, to choose the winners it wishes to participate in such Media Events except where prohibited by law. By accepting the prize, all winners, whether or not chosen to participate in such Media Events, agree to release Scholastic Inc. and NBA Properties, and its affiliates, subsidiaries, distributors and agencies, and hold each of them harmless, from any claims relating to their selection, non-selection, participation or non-participation in any Media Events. Taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prizewinners and their families.
