Scholastic's I SPY™ Junior Arrives on Store Shelves

New CD-ROM Allows Children Ages Three to Five to Experience the Magic of I SPY.

NEW YORK (October 19, 1999) – Scholastic Inc. (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children's publishing and media company, is now shipping I SPY Junior, the latest in its line of award-winning I SPY CD-ROMs that includes the original I SPY (1997) and the recently released I Spy Spooky Mansion (August 1999). Designed for kids ages three to five, I SPY Junior features more than 70 charming picture riddles, fun puzzles, and multi-leveled games that strengthen age-appropriate critical thinking skills.

"With I Spy Junior, Scholastic extends the unique I SPY experience to preschoolers," said Ruth Otte, Executive Vice President, Scholastic Inc. "Young children will love

I SPY Junior for the bright and cheerful images and engaging riddles and games, while parents and teachers will appreciate the developmentally appropriate early math, early reading, and thinking skills embedded in these activities."

In I SPY Junior, kids discover six colorful cubbies filled with an assortment of fun activities. In Nature, Blocks, and Busy Bins, preschoolers solve clever rhyming riddles by searching familiar scenes (like a zoo) filled with real-life objects. Kids can also practice sorting and classifying in the Oops Hoops! game, or build pattern recognition skills in Pattern Place. They'll even flex their creative muscles and design their own masterpiece in the Make Your Own I SPY area.

I SPY Junior is now available at all major retail outlets in a Windows/Macintosh hybrid format for a suggested retail price of $29.99. I SPY Spooky Mansion, a new CD-ROM for children ages six to ten, is also available for a suggested retail price of $29.99 at all major retail outlets. Customers can also order the I SPY CD-ROMs by calling 1-800-724-4718.

I SPY, created by Jean Marzollo and Walter Wick in 1992, is an award-winning series of books, CD-ROMs, puzzles, and games for children that cleverly combines brain-teasing photorealistic pictures with engaging rhyming riddles. In addition to the latest CD-ROMs, Scholastic is also shipping two new books, I SPY Treasure Hunt and the latest addition to the I SPY Little Books series for toddlers, I SPY Little Christmas.
