Look at Me!

Look at Me!

More classic Munsch fare: When Madison gets a rose painted on her face, the rose and her imagination take off in all directions!

Madison goes with her grandma to get her face painted. But Madison doesn’t want just any picture on her face. She asks for a “really real” rose on her cheek. Later, when the family is out shopping, the rose suddenly starts to GROW. “Look at me!” says Madison. “That’s nice,” says her dad. “That’s nice,” says her mom. Madison soon has roses growing all over her.

Grandma finally takes Madison to the doctor — but she has no clue what to do. Next they go to the garden store, where Madison narrowly avoids the weed killer. She finally buys a huge flower pot, takes it home, and naps right next to it. When she wakes up, she is rose-free — the flowers have grown right into the pot.

The Sweetest One of All

The Sweetest One of All

Barnyard babies frisk through the fields, making their new mothers very happy. Each time a new animal is born, another mother yearns for one of her very own. But there’s a twist. For example, the horse sees a new calf and says, “I want a little calf like her,” but the mother cow says, “That would be silly. You want a filly.” “Of course,” says the horse.” In the end, the farmer’s wife shows off her own baby … the sweetest one of all, because it’s her very own.

The Unknown Soldier

Details about fallen soldiers make headlines nearly every day. However, thousands of unidentified young men who served in conflicts in the last century received a different type of recognition. The Unknown Soldier shows how many “unknowns” from around the world have been honoured – in memorials, tombs and monuments – by their countries.

The book offers fascinating information about unknown soldiers from many counties including Canada, the United States, Britain, France, Belgium, Russia, Greece, Italy, Japan, Iraq, Australia, and New Zealand. Additional sections reveal how a Canadian and a US unknown have now been identified using DNA evidence. With incredible archival photos as well as poems, coins, medals, and postcards, this informative historical book has appeal for all ages around the world.

The Pirates of Captain McKee

The Pirates of Captain McKee

The narrator of this whimsical rhyming story sets off in an enchanted canoe with his brother and O’Malley — a stuffed kangaroo — and meets up with a band of fearsome pirates. But the swashbucklers turn out to be friendly after all, and they all share a feast of hot dogs and “sizzled mallows,” before the canoe speeds the adventurers safely home. Discover charming and original characters in this book, which pairs Lawson’s humorous text with Zimmermann’s stunning illustrations.

Dead Silence

Dead Silence

Mike is stunned when he goes to check out an altercation near his high school and discovers that someone has been stabbed to death. He’s even more shocked to learn that the victim is his friend Sal. The cops' investigation is going nowhere, because nobody is coming forward to say what they saw. So Mike decides to start asking some questions on his own. He finds out that Sal was friendly with a girl who recently left a gang but is being hassled by the gang members. Is that why Sal was killed? And how can Mike prove it?

Norah McClintock is the master of mystery for young adults and she doesn’t disappoint in this latest book in the Mike and Riel series.
