SCHOLASTIC 2012 FAMILY OF THE YEAR CONTEST
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the 2012 Scholastic Family of the Year Contest? It's a contest to choose a family (as defined in the Official Rules) that gives back, makes a difference in the lives of others, performs an outstanding deed and/or all of the above.

What are some examples of giving back, making a difference in the lives of others, or outstanding deeds? Just what you might think—donating time and energy to charitable works, volunteering in your child's school, donating your professional skills to a worthy cause, organizing or helping run a non-profit. Rescuing animals. Helping shut-ins. Cleaning up the local park. The sky's the limit.

How is the winner chosen? Scholastic Parent & Child magazine judges will review all of the entries and choose a winner based on the criteria set forth in the Official Rules. Scholastic Parent & Child will name one grand prize winner and two runners up.

What will the winner receive? The winner and his/her family (as defined in the Official Rules) will be professionally photographed by Parent & Child magazine and appear on the cover (as defined in the Official Rules) of the June/July 2012 issue. They'll also be featured in an article inside the same issue. The winner will also receive $20,000 in savings bonds. Additionally, the winner and his/her family will receive a trip to New York City at around the time the issue goes on sale at newsstands to make promotional appearances on behalf of the magazine. Two runners up and his/her immediate family will be featured in an article inside the June/July 2012 issue or on the website; receive a $1,000 savings bond; Scholastic will donate $1,000 worth of books to the school, library or community organization of each family's choosing. Is there a fee for entering the Family of the Year contest? No.

Will submitting photos and/or a video with my entry increase my family's chances of winning? No. Submitting photos and/or video are optional.

How long can my video be? You can submit a video of not more than five minutes in length (up to 10 megabytes in size for online submissions).

Can I enter the contest by regular U.S. mail? Yes you can. Submit your essay and if you want, up to three hardcopy photos and/or a video of not more than five minutes on a DVD to: Scholastic Family of the Year Contest, P.O. Box 711, New York, New York 10013.

What is the entry period? November 1, 2011 until 11:59 p.m, Eastern Time, March 15, 2012.

Do I receive something for entering the contest even if I don't win? Entrants to the contest will receive a free Scholastic book (while supplies last, see the Official Rules for details). We will mail it to you.
