Quiet,today was. Oh, yes, I know. It still is, as I write on the creamy white pages of this book. Quiet. My sisters and brothers, Mona, Katy, Sarah, Ari, George,and Bryant, were quiet,too. Papa and Mama were absolutly silent. There wasn't even any silverware clanking at dinner. Not even from Mona, who's silverware clanks every time it touches her plate. But not tonight. Tonight, all was quiet. Even me. I was quiet, too. Even Bryant and George were quiet. Mama and Papa say that Mona will have to find us another house. A smaller one. That probably means a 2 bedroom one. Because Papa lost his job. And Mama broke the stove. And we have no money to fix it. No hot meals for a while. Tonight is the start of a very sad time.
