Cold oatmeal again! It's been weeks since our family has eaten hot food, with any real flavor to it. Oh, how I wish that Papa hadn't lost his job, and that our lives were just the way they were before all this madness began! I'm beginning to think that we'll never make it through this. Our family is falling apart... everything is falling apart, for that matter! Now Mama won't stop crying, and Papa only mopes around the house - or what's left of it. Everything is in shambles, and I'm afraid that I'm the only person in this household who's still keeping faith. I think I'll start working at the butchery down the road... I'm only twelve, but that shouldn't matter. By the time I return to you, dear diary, hopefully I'll be a little bit richer. Good-bye...
