Dear Journal,
Mary Lou is still weeping. We suffered another loss today. One of our oxen, one that Mary Lou loved like a brother, died. Clem cooked it on a fire and we had to eat it for dinner, seeing as there was no food. We are toiling across hot desert sands. We got offcourse and are trying to find our way. I am so overcome with the face of sadness I wonder if my Mama and Papa will still be waiting for me when we get to California? Once Mary Lou turned and said,
