Nowhere to Go

By: Jenna  B
New York, Grade: 7

Papa said today that if there is no rain by next week, we will move to California. California? I do not want to go to California. Lots of other people have already left for California. Will there be enough food and houses? Mama and Pedro looked troubled too. Pedro is my 15-year-old brother. I'm Andrea Sanchez, and I'm 12. Mama is going to have a baby soon. How cruel is it to bring a baby into the world at such a time? I fear very much so. 2 weeks later: There is so little food on the way to California. Papa, with a heavy heart, dropped Pedro off in a town on the way. He will get a job and send us money. But we cannot afford to keep him with us on the trail, since Mama had a baby girl yesterday. Her name is Paz, which means peace. I hope that our family will someday be at peace.
