From Place To Place

By: Mitch W
Georgia, Grade: 5

Mama,Papa, and I were fine in Arkansas.Doing all the work that needed to be done at the cotton mill, but one day we were minding our own business, and a giant dust cloud came out of nowhere and covered the whole property with dust.We hoped it would end for a couple of weeks, but it never did,so we needed to pack.It took about three weeks to get to California, but when we got there. All jobs were takin. So we had to leave again, but this time to Indiana. It took about two weeks I'd say to get there. We finally found a job there at a toothpaste factory, and we stayed there until The Dust Bowl was over, and then we moved to Oklahoma for a nice living at a vegetable farm, making good money, and that is how I survived The Great Depression.
