The Boy In The East

By: Warren M
Wisconsin, Grade: 6

May 3rd, 1998

This morning my beloved mother was swept away in the worst sandstorm we've ever experienced.
It ruined my house, but I and the kids were safe down in our storm shelter.
My lovely mother's funeral is tomorrow, I hope that the storm does not strike during the funeral.

May 4th, 1998

It’s the day of the funeral and the weather looks alright. My dad gave me a hug and we started walking. Not that we don’t have a car but my dad wants to exercise.
Half way to the funeral we saw dust over the horizon. But since the funeral was inside we needed to try to make it to the church before the storm got to us.
It was a photo-finish we got to the house right before the storm hit.
People were crying and holding there head in shame…especially my dad.
