Job Hunting

By: Chase C
Louisiana, Grade: 8

February 22, 1932

Today Pa left on a big train to go to New York City; it's some place up north where he says he might find work. Ma says he is going looking for a job so us children can eat and live a decent life. Lately Pa has been at home more than he usually is. Ma says this is because he lost his job, and he can't find another one around here. So he has to go out of town to find work. I don't know why but this made Pa real sad he comes home every day with his head hanging on his shoulders and just mopes to himself. I just don’t get it usually he's complaining about working too much but now he is sad about not working at all; I just cannot seem to figure out what it is he really wants. Whatever it is I hope he finds it in New York.
