What Future to Look Foward to?

By: Mary K
New York, Grade: 8

Today Daddy couldn't go to work becuase he was too sick from all the dust. Mommy had to go the soup kitchen and get bread and soup for us. Daddy is hoping that Franklin D. Roosvelt will get elected and get us out of this Great Depression that he says Herbert Hoover started. I hope he gets elected too becuase if he does, Daddy might get a better job than the one he has now. I wish we could go back to being rich like we were a long time ago. Daddy says though that we can't focus on the past but live in the present and look foward to the future. What future am I supposed to look foward too? As long as Daddy is sick and has a bad job and Mommy has to go down to the soup kitchen for free food and I have to wear dirty old clothes, the future isn't bright. Please Mr. Roosvelt, please be elected and help my Mommy and Daddy and me. I wish you cold help me journal, but you can't.
