It's over

By: Jamie L
Alabama, Grade: 5

It all ended tonight. Mama just died. I'm all alone, the only person to survive in our family.Mama worked at a factory,a landry plant to be exact, and tonight 10 women jumped out the window,my mom being one of them. It's my fault. I refused to work in the meat industry so money was scarce. Mama handed me a penny this morning and I was suprised. She smiled and smoothed my hair down. Then she gave me a quick kiss on the forehead. I spent my penny on a newspaper to see what was going on in the deppression.Mama never came home that night. I went to doorstep to doorstep asking for food. A widowed women gave me a slice of bread and invited me into her parlor. I politely refused because my moma would be home soon.I, Emily Danson, will see the depression through, and that is a promise.
