Dear journal,
I only have heard one thing from Mother in California......... no luck. She says I'll have to get a job too, things are so bad. But, actually, I don't mind at all. In fact, I'd be glad to help pay the family finances. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm very upset about it. I guess that's why they call it a depression, though.

My friend, Elizabeth, has told me her Mother's got no job, either. I only know of one person who isn't affected by this- Mary Jane Sue. She's so wealthy, that if she gave everybody in the country a dollar, she'd still be rich! But that only makes things worse. How come her daddy's big fancy business can't employ my Mother and I? Why, that's the big, fat, depressing question here that no one can ever answer, and just say
