Grading Reports

READ 180 students need to be given the time to learn the essential skills they have not previously mastered. At the same time, all students must master skills in order to meet state standards and pass assessments. Although students may need to start out working below grade level to master skills they missed in the past, at the same time they must be given the tools needed to meet grade-level requirements.

Of course, it is important for you to communicate positive feedback about your students' progress—even for those not yet on grade level. However, report card assessments must give a realistic picture of how a student is measuring up to grade-level expectations.

How to Determine a Grade
In determining report card grades, consider each step below.

• Think about each part of the Instructional Model, including:
  • Teacher-led whole- and small-group instruction.
  • READ 180 Software progress at the Computer Station.
  • Independent and Modeled Reading with Audiobooks and Paperbacks.
• Refer to SRI Reports, including the Growth and Student Performance Reports to evaluate students' reading progress.
• Use the READ 180 Grading Report to analyze data and put it all together.
• Factor your own observations into your final grade determination. Take into account how well each student listens, follows directions, observes classroom protocol, focuses on tasks, participates in discussion and activities, demonstrates respect for others, and shows enthusiasm for learning.
