Dear Little Book,
I am very distressed by yesterday's events. Somehow I knew this would happen. Martha and I spent a lot of time together before she took ill - and I knew it was only a matter of time before I was accused. I must find a way to clear my name and hers. Although I have not yet been able to talk to Martha alone, I know she is no witch.

These days are getting stranger and stranger to be sure. There is new news of Martha, which could not possibly be true. She now claims that Old Myr, an old woman who lives alone out beyond the town, is the one who is bewitching her! She finally comes to her senses and this is what she has to say? Old Myr is a strange old woman, but she is no witch. This woman she speaks of once saved my brother's life with her herbs when he was just a babe, and Martha herself has spent many an afternoon in her company enjoying her interesting stories.

Later….

While outside finishing my chores before supper, I saw a figure coming toward our house - I could barely see who it was. As they drew near, I recognized him to be Marett Johnson , the older brother of that scamp Thomas who I feared was spreading mistruths about me. He smiled and said: "Hello Rebecca. I'm sorry to call so late, but I wanted to apologize to you for my brother's behavior. He is just reacting to all that is going on in Salem right now. But I have assured him that he is wrong about you.."
"Well thank you Marett", I said, but I assure YOU that he is also wrong about Martha. And I will prove it."
"Well, let me know if I can help in anyway." He said with a smile.
"I surely will." I replied, and hurried into the house. I was sure he could see how fast my heart was beating. Although Mother and Father will probably disapprove, I will go to visit Old Myr tomorrow. I wonder if she can shed any light on what's wrong with Martha.
