January 22, 1692 Dear Little Book, On the way back home, a boy named Thomas Johnson came up to me and without warning, began to question me, saying he saw me leaving Martha's house. "Is it true tha' Martha sold her soul to the devil?" Thomas asked me. I stopped abruptly and glared at Thomas. "How could you think anything so awful?" I asked. I felt like striking him! Then as I turned on my heel and left, I faintly heard Thomas yelling behind me, "Are you going to sell your soul to the devil as well? Are you doing witchcraft?" I ignored him and continued towards home. I now fear that Thomas will tell stories about me doing witchcraft! If he does, will they believe him? Will they come after me? Will Anna Paxton be visiting the town's folk, with outrageous stories about me? Oh, little book, I now fear for my own safety!
