Dear Little Book,
This afternoon, when Father and Mother are out visiting, I'm going to steal away to Martha's house. I know this is very wicked of me to do, but I must see her! I hope Anna Paxton was wrong about Martha selling her soul to the Devil!

Later ...

Oh my goodness! As I got near Martha's house, I could faintly hear screaming. Martha's sister Elisabeth answered the door, and led me to the parlour, where Martha was lying on the floor, kicking and screaming at the top of her voice! Her parents were trying to calm her down, but she kept kicking them away. Elisabeth told me that Martha said she felt as if she were being pinched all over by something invisible. All of a sudden, Martha jumped up and ran to get their family Bible - and you'll never believe what she did next ... she threw it into the fire! I was horrified, and Martha's mother began to cry. I left right away. I do hope Martha will stop behaving so strangely - I'm starting to wonder if what Anna Paxton said was true...
