A craft inspired by A Time For Courage:
The Suffragette Diary of Kathleen Bowen, Washington D.C., 1917

Banana Splitbanana split
Kat’s favorite dessert to share with a friend after school was a big banana split from the local fountain shop. This dessert is a perfect snack after a long hard day of classes, and it’s definitely built for two so enjoy it with a friend!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 firm, large Banana, cut in half lengthwise
  • 3 scoops of ice cream — vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or a combination of all three
  • 2 tablespoons warm caramel topping
  • 2 tablespoons warm chocolate syrup
  • 1 tablespoon chopped almonds or other nuts, toasted
  • As much whipped cream as you want
  • 1 maraschino cherry

DIRECTIONS:

Get out your favorite bowl and put in your banana halves. Scoop out your ice cream of choice one scoop at a time and arrange them between the banana halves. Warm up some caramel topping and chocolate syrup in separate small containers in your microwave (*Don’t forget to get a grown-up's permission to use the microwave first!) then drizzle them over the ice cream. Top with whipped cream, the chopped nuts and a cherry. Enjoy!
