A craft inspired by Survival in the Storm:
The Dust Bowl Diary of Grace Edwards,
Dalhart, Texas, 1935
After a long day of planting the spring wheat, many farmers like Grace Edwards' father came together with their families to celebrate. Since food was scare in what was called the 'Dust Bowl', a dish of Deviled Eggs was a welcome treat. This simple recipe makes a yummy lunch! INGREDIENTS:
6 eggs
½ teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
½ teaspoon mustard powder
* Make sure to get a grown-up's permission to use the stove!
DIRECTIONS:
Fill a medium sized pot with water and add a dash of salt.
On the stove, bring water to boil, then carefully place the in the pot one by one.
Cook eggs until they are hard boiled, approximately 10 to 15 minutes and then drain them.
When the eggs have cooled, cut each one in half lengthwise and remove the egg yolks.
Mash the egg yolks together in a small mixing bowl and add in paprika, mayonnaise, and mustard.
Spoon the mixture into the center of the egg whites, and serve with toast!
