A craft inspired by
A Light in the Storm: The Civil War Diary of Amelia Martin, Fenwick Island, Delaware, 1861
This fall favorite dessert is as old as the hills and a welcome treat,
as the weather turns colder. Adapted from a mid-nineteenth century
cookbook, this recipe details an old-fashioned method for making
Pumpkin Pie maybe the same recipe Amelia Martin followed
in A Light in the Storm! Yum!
INGREDIENTS:
15 ounce can 100% pure pumpkin
2 eggs
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
12 ounces of milk
9-inch pie shell
DIRECTIONS:
* Make sure to get a grown-up's permission to use the stove!
1.
Beat eggs slightly; then beat in the remaining
ingredients.
2.
Pour into an unbaked 9-inch pie shell, then
bake in a pre-heated oven at 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
3.
Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for around
45 minutes more. Test by inserting a knife into the middle of pie
if it comes out clean, it's done!
