A craft inspired by Standing in the Light:
The Captive Diary of Catharine Carey Logan,
Delaware Valley, Pennsylvania, 1763

Make a Necklace
Snow Hunter believed that Nature had sent the eagle to be his guardian. Sharing his own eagle necklace with Catharine was his way protecting her. Create your own eagle necklace to share with someone dear to your heart!

MATERIALS:
Modeling clay, 18 inches of ribbon or leather strap, paint, small household items for decoration (tiny button, beads, noodles, beans, etc.), glue.

DIRECTIONS:
Use a rolling pin to make a flat 1/4 inch layer of clay. Cut the paper pattern out and lay on top of the clay. Using a dull edge, cut the pattern into clay. Use a pencil, pen or straw to create the tie hole. Allow the clay to dry. Paint and decorate or just leave your eagle plain like Snow Hunter's. Out of clay? Not to worry! Just use a piece of cardboard or a brown paper sack! Present your unique eagle necklace to someone special and share the story "Standing in the Light." Now, that's the Lenape way!

Needed:
Eagle Pattern

The Eagle Pattern is in PDF format. To print it, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader software (version 4.0 or higher). If you do not have this software already intstalled, click here to download it free.
